Guidelines for Repositories

Before a dataset can be submitted for publication the dataset must be deposited in a registered repository, along with the associated metadata for the dataset.

Repositories can be registered on a case by case basis through contact with the Geoscience Data Journal editor. At a minimum, repositories should have the ability to:

  • Assign DOIs to the dataset and offer sufficiently long data preservations that match the amount of time the public will find this data scientifically beneficial.
  • tore the data files in an easily readable format across different computing platforms.
  • Allow reviewers easy (and anonymous to the dataset authors) access to the data and supporting metadata.
  • Following successful review and publication the repository must provide open access to the broad/public user community.

Datasets submitted for publication should be complete and not liable to change. Metadata should be included to allow a full understanding of the data.
